If you’re from the same generation that I am, you were likely influenced or at least aware of the films of Robert Rodriguez. It may be trendy to hate on Rodriguez these days based on his recent output, but after El Mariachi, Desperado, and From Dusk Till Dawn he was one of the hottest names in Hollywood. His do-it-yourself style of film making was an inspiration for those of us interested in the process of making a movie. Once Upon a Time in Mexico was one of his movies that came out and was a hit, but not really talked about much after its release.
