The trailer for Robert Eggers’ new film The Witch has just dropped and it looks like it will definitely be something to keep an eye on. Below is a summary of the movie’s plot from IMDB.
New England, 1630: William and Katherine lead a devout Christian life, homesteading on the edge of an impassible wilderness, with five children. When their newborn son mysteriously vanishes and their crops fail, the family begins to turn on one another. ‘The Witch’ is a chilling portrait of a family unraveling within their own fears and anxieties, leaving them prey for an inescapable evil.
The trailer for this movie is just rather unsettling, and being set in the 17th century wilderness just adds to the mystique. Based on the trailer, I have a feeling that this movie will feature some of the most unsettling on-screen goats of all time. It garnered positive reviews at Sundance this year, and is something that has our attention. Unfortunately, we will not be getting this movie in the next few months as its release date is currently just sometime in 2016.
